Concrete-Plus Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTION:   What is CONCRETE-PLUS?

ANSWER:      A highly specialized blend of acrylic and polyester resins which in application cross link to form a solid protective barrier over exterior concrete, sidewalks, drives, parking lots, floors, docks, etc.

QUESTION:   Why does concrete need to be sealed?

ANSWER:      Because even the most carefully laid concrete is subject to damage from year round exposure to moisture, freezing and traffic which causes cracking, spalling, chipping, pitting, staining and dusting.  CONCRETE-PLUS protects and hardens the surface of concrete; prevents such premature breakdown.

QUESTION:   Why is CONCRETE-PLUS also needed for protection in warm climates where freezing and thawing does not take place?

ANSWER:      Most people never realize that the sun's intense rays can heat a concrete surface to over 110° F. during a summer day.  At night the temperature will drop 50° or more, creating an amazing contraction and expansion process with caulk cracking and general deterioration.  CONCRETE-PLUS prevents this premature breakdown.

QUESTION:   How long will CONCRETE-PLUS last?

ANSWER:      PACE has conducted "in depth" tests which have convinced us under average conditions CONCRETE-PLUS will have a 3 year life expectancy.  But it is not unreasonable to project up to 5 years or more on many applications as CONCRETE-PLUS does its work both at the surface and below the surface.

QUESTION:   Can CONCRETE-PLUS be applied to a previously painted surface?

ANSWER:      No.  CONCRETE-PLUS must be applied to a clean, unpainted, dry surface so CONCRETE-PLUS can penetrate and seal.

QUESTION:   Can CONCRETE-PLUS be used on concrete that is cracked and in a state of disintegration?

ANSWER:      Definitely NO.  CONCRETE-PLUS is Preventive Maintenance.  Its purpose is to protect and extend the life of concrete which is in good repair.  If there are hairline cracks, it will help to prevent further breakdown, but it is not a resurfacer.

QUESTION:   What preparation is required before applying CONCRETE-PLUS?

ANSWER:      Clean the area with a good detergent.  We highly recommend our KANDU which should be vigorously scrubbed into the surface.  After rinsing and allowing to dry, apply CONCRETE-PLUS with brush or roller.  Roller is best for thorough and fast application.  Note:  deeply imbedded stains will not affect the sealing properties of CONCRETE-PLUS.

QUESTION:   Does CONCRETE-PLUS make it easier to clean concrete and masonry?

ANSWER:      Yes.  Because CONCRETE-PLUS provides such a tight seal, dirt, oil, grease and grime cannot become imbedded in the pores of the concrete -- keeps them at the surface where they can be easily removed.

QUESTION:   How much can CONCRETE-PLUS save me?

ANSWER:      With new concrete running well over $5.00 per square foot and more across the country, a customer can save 30 times the cost of replacing his concrete, making CONCRETE-PLUS an excellent investment in preventive maintenance.

QUESTION:   Is it necessary to hire a contractor to apply CONCRETE-PLUS?

ANSWER:      Absolutely not.  This is one of the easiest products to use in our line.  Inexperienced applicators can do a professional job of application.

QUESTION:   Is CONCRETE-PLUS resistant to gasoline?

ANSWER:      Yes, definitely!  Plus CONCRETE-PLUS resists alcohol, kerosene, hydraulic fluid, oil, grease and street salts used in the winter to melt ice and snow.

QUESTION:   What about new concrete.

ANSWER:      New concrete should definitely be sealed.  Allow it to age for 90 days before coating.

QUESTION:   How does cold weather affect CONCRETE-PLUS?

ANSWER:      After application, cold weather will have no effect on CONCRETE-PLUS.  In fact, CONCRETE-PLUS will make ice and snow removal easier as it prevents ice and snow from sticking to the concrete.  For best results, CONCRETE-PLUS should be applied when the surface temperature is above 45° F.

QUESTION:   What about striping over CONCRETE-PLUS?

ANSWER:      CONCRETE-PLUS can easily be striped.  Allow CONCRETE-PLUS to age 24 hours before striping.

QUESTION:   How long after application before the area can be opened to traffic?

ANSWER:      CONCRETE-PLUS dries to the touch in 30 minutes under normal conditions.  It dries foot traffic ready in 1 hour and parking and vehicle ready in 2 hours.
