Park-King® Frequently Asked Questions
QUESTION: Can PARK-KING® be applied immediately after a new blacktop is laid? ANSWER: NO - the blacktop should be allowed to age through one summer season, so the normal shrinkage cycle can take place before sealing the surface. THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT FOR PROPER RESULTS. QUESTION: Is PARK-KING® recommended for surfaces other than asphalt, such as concrete, brick, etc? ANSWER: PARK-KING® is strictly a blacktop sealer, carefully formulated to seal a blacktop surface, and is never sold for other kinds of parking areas. Our CONCRETE-PLUS is the product recommended for sealing concrete and brick. QUESTION: Is PARK-KING® resistant to gasoline and oil? ANSWER: YES - PARK-KING® shows excellent resistance to these conditions. Durability will vary depending on amount of exposure. QUESTION: Is it a good idea to spray a blacktop with PARK-KING®? ANSWER: We recommend a roller application as with spray there is a great danger of puddling, uneven application, overspray and fogging. QUESTION: What if I don't use all my PARK-KING® at one time? ANSWER: Keep the lid tight on the container and it will retain its effectiveness indefinitely. QUESTION: What do you do about cleaning out the roller if you are caught in the middle of an application and your equipment dries up on you? ANSWER: It is not necessary to clean out the roller. Before you are to reuse, simply put the roller in a pail of PARK-KING. Allow it to sit for about 30 minutes. The nap on the roller will soften up so you can resume your application with excellent results. QUESTION: What is the drying time for a PARK-KING® sealed blacktop? ANSWER: Under the best drying conditions a surface will be dry in 4 hours; however, this will depend on weather conditions, humidity, and temperature. Always allow at least 10 hours before parking on the lot. It's best to be conservative and give a fine product the best possible environment in which to render an outstanding performance. QUESTION: How much use can you expect out of 1 roller? ANSWER: Experienced PACERs figure 3-4 barrels per roller. Be sure and order enough rollers for all applicators. QUESTION: Are there any special precautions in blacktop preparation before using PARK-KING®? ANSWER: Sweep and hose the blacktop of surface dirt and debris. Let dry. If there are caked areas, showing accumulations of grease and oil, scrape these, then use PACE KANDU to remove remaining oil or grease from the surface. Let surface dry thoroughly before applying PARK-KING® sealer. QUESTION: What about larger cracks? What do we do about these? ANSWER: PARK-KING® obviously cannot seal large cracks, so for this purpose we have NEOPRENE 66 crack filler. Furnished in cartridge form, NEOPRENE 66 is fed from a caulk gun into the cracks to seal them. The crack should be cleaned of dirt and debris and widened if necessary to a width of 1/8" before sealing. This process is effective for cracks up to 1/4". QUESTION: Is PARK-KING® recommended for a blacktop that is crumbling and breaking up in one area? ANSWER: Chuckholes in the blacktop can be easily filled in with PACE's TRAFFIX. This is an inexpensive and permanent repair for localized holes. But if breakdown is over the entire blacktop, TRAFFIX will not meet your needs. QUESTION: Does PARK-KING® come ready to use? ANSWER: YES - it is factory prepared for application. This makes it convenient for DO IT YOURSELF use, as there is nothing complicated - no special thinners to buy, etc. You don't even have to stir it. it always stays in suspension. QUESTION: Is it true that there is a difference in the vulnerability to weathering in various sections of one blacktop? ANSWER: YES, this is true. This is due to speed of installation, which may find the asphalt mix in one strip coarser than in other strips. This coarse aggregate leaves voids that are open to the weather from the day the blacktop is laid - and of course, this greatly steps up the destruction cycle.
