Silverliner Frequently Asked Questions
QUESTION: What is SILVERLINER? ANSWER: A totally new interior sealer designed for lumber drying kilns. SILVERLINER is a blend of pure Silberline Aluminum in a base of the highest grade of Gilsonite Asphalt reinforced with fiberglass. QUESTION: What does SILVERLINER do? ANSWER: Kilns are subject to extreme attack by heat, humidity and wood acids in the drying of lumber. SILVERLINER sets up an aluminum shield between these elements and the kiln walls extending the kiln's life. SILVERLINER also seals and caulks the kiln, permitting pin-point control of temperature and humidity lowering drying costs and improving lumber quality by reducing rejects. QUESTION: How is SILVERLINER applied? ANSWER: By brush, roller or PACE'S AIRLESS SEAMLESS SPRAY method. On very small kiln jobs, the brush and roller methods can be used, but in all other cases, AIRLESS SEAMLESS SPRAY is 2 to 3 times faster. QUESTION: Are skilled applicators needed? ANSWER: Absolutely not. Anyone can effectively apply SILVERLINER with brush, roller or AIRLESS SEAMLESS SPRAY with professional results. How to apply information is furnished on each container. High-cost outside contractors are never necessary. QUESTION: How long a shut-down time is required to seal with SILVERLINER? ANSWER: Only long enough to cool the kiln and remove dirt, loose particles and scale. Apply SILVERLINER. Most kilns can be sealed and are back in operation in 24 hours. QUESTION: Why is SILVERLINER superior to conventional black coatings? ANSWER: SILVERLINER provides substantially greater resistance to wood acids, heat and moisture. This is due to the Silberline Aluminum flakes forming a metallic shield even over rough surfaces. Gilsonite Asphalt and fiberglass underneath the metallic shield gives SILVERLINER greater strength and the flexibility necessary to withstand the wide temperature changes. QUESTION: How much SILVERLINER is required for a kiln? ANSWER: SILVERLINER is applied at a rate of 50 sq. ft. per gallon an a rough or porous surface - 75 sq. ft. per gallon on a smooth, non-porous surface. QUESTION: Can SILVERLINER be used on kilns that manufacture brick, tile or ceramic? ANSWER: ABSOLUTELY NOT. SILVERLINER has been formulated for use only in lumber dry kilns. We do not recommend SILVERLINER for use in any brick, tile, or ceramic manufacturing kiln as temperatures are greatly in excess of maximum limitations for use of any liquid kiln coating. QUESTION: How long will SILVERLINER last? ANSWER: We estimate from two to three times the life of conventional coatings, due to the special formulation of Gilsonte Asphalt and combined with the pure Silberline Aluminum pigment, reinforced with super-strength fiberglass. QUESTION: Is it necessary to patch the surface before applying SILVERLINER? ANSWER: Missing mortar, large cracks, other larger openings should be patched with SILVERLINER CEMENT. SILVERLINER can then be applied immediately. QUESTION: Are there temperature limitations for application? ANSWER: Reduce interior temperature to 100° F. or less. Maintain minimum temperatures of 60° F. This means SILVERLINER may be used any time of the year - even in mid-winter! QUESTION: Is SILVERLINER resistant to heat? ANSWER: Up to 300° F. High moisture resistance. Unaffected by the high humidity and moisture accumulating and trickling down the walls. Withstands acids and alkalies that cause early break-down in other conventional kiln coatings. QUESTION: How fast is SEAMLESS SPRAY for kilns? ANSWER: Two men, using AIRLESS SEAMLESS SPRAY equipment can seal the average sized kiln in one-half day. One man operates the pole gun, the second man transfers the pump from one barrel to the other. Operates air compressor. AIRLESS SEAMLESS SPRAY gives your kiln operator the most economical method for faster application and lowest labor cost per square foot!
