Wet-Jet® Frequently Asked Questions

You can't always be sure the leak in a roof will be directly above the area where the water is entering the building.  Many times the water will come in at one point, then travel along a beam until it finds a soft area of entry.  So - - while WET-JET can be used successfully during a rainstorm or a thaw to check damage by making a minor repair (if you can track down the sneaky leak), the one, sure, safe way to correct all future roof problems is with a complete ROOF RENEWAL covered with PACE's Maintenance Policy.  Such a renewal is a sensible alternative to a new roof at a small fraction of the cost in today's economy!

QUESTION:   Should I use SILVERLEAF or WET-JET®?

ANSWER:      This is a choice you have on paper, mineral roll, composition and metal roofs.  For gravel roofs we do not recommend SILVERLEAF.  If the need is waterproofing, use WET-JET®.  For the EXTRA benefit of year-round insulation, use SILVERLEAF Savings in air conditioning and on fuel bills will repay a substantial part of the purchase price.

QUESTION:   Is roof preparation necessary before applying WET-JET®?

ANSWER:      Roof preparation is essential for a good roof job.  It’s important to put the proper foundation under the fine roof sealants you are using.  The use of SUPER ROOF CEMENT, NEOPRENE 66 RUBERRIZED CEMENT, FABRON and SEAL-TEX Bonding Adhesive turn the weakest, most vulnerable points of the roof into its strongest points.  Such reinforcement is necessary to assure maximum protection.

QUESTION:   What about Roof Primers?

ANSWER:      Many of our competitors recommend Roof Primer coats.  However, through the use of built-in primers, specially blended oils, including Pinecel and X-5, we have achieved the same penetration into a dry roof mat with our coatings that competitive companies try to obtain with a 2-Coat System (Primer and Coating).  This process has a track record backed by PACE’s over 40 years of leadership in the cold process roof sealant field.  PACE’s ONE COAT System gives you the waterproofing you need at substantial savings by cutting labor costs in half.

QUESTION:   Is it better to apply WET-JET® by brush, roller or sprayer?

ANSWER:      This depends on the job.  For average-sized roofs, we suggest ordering pails and use either brush or roller.  SEAMLESS SPRAY is the breakthrough for cutting labor costs on the larger roofs.  On orders for 10 or more barrels, we loan our SEAMLESS SPRAY equipment FREE!

QUESTION:   On gravel roofs, what is done with the excess gravel after it has been removed from the surface using a stiff push broom?

ANSWER:      Get it off the roof and dump it.  This is excess weight (as much as 400 pounds per 100 square feet).  The roof doesn’t need this weight.  With less weight, there is less strain and stress and with no gravel to accumulate tons of dirt, roof life is greatly extended.

QUESTION:   How long does it take WET-JET® to dry?

ANSWER:      A medium-hard surface film forms after a few days.  Normal drying takes about a month.

QUESTION:   Can I just patch my roof without completely coating it?

ANSWER:      We recommend you go for the complete roof renewal – this is the best long-term investment.  However, we will fill “Patch Only” orders as long as they meet minimum quantity requirements.  Such orders will not receive the PACE Maintenance Policy.
